Naypyidaw, the administrative capital city of Myanmar which was officially moved to a green-field 302 km west of Nay Pyi Daw and approximately 391 km north of Yangon. Centrally located and being easily accessible from all parts of Myanmar, holding that relocation of the capital would facilitate accessibility of the government from all parts of the country. The capital’s official name was announced on 27 March 2006. It is administered as the Naypyidaw Union Territory. With this new capital came humongous new government buildings, numerous reservoirs, colour-coded apartment housing for workers, huge new expressways, and much more. It is the third largest city in Myanmar behind Yangon and Nay Pyi Daw, and is one of the world’s 10 fastest-growing cities.
Best Time to Visit Nay Pyi Daw
Nay Pyi Daw, in the cooler months from November to February, the weather is pleasant and dry with the maximum temperatures during the day averaging to about 30 degree Celsius and the average minimum at night is 12 degree Celsius. You can enjoy various outdoor activities in the dry weather. This is also the peak season for tourists.
Nay Pyi Daw experiences heavy rainfall from the month of June to October, making it unfit for travel. It experiences a hot and dry climate in April and May with the average temperature ranging from a minimum of 28 degrees to a maximum of 38 degree Celsius. The monsoons (June to October) and summers (April to May) are considered to be the off season to visit Nay Pyi Daw.
But if you happen to be in Nay Pyi Daw during April, off season to visit, you will have the time of your life because Nay Pyi Daw celebrates its most important festival, the Thingyan Water Festival and the whole city is a picture of joy and festivities. New Years is celebrated after the water festival with great enthusiasm.
What to Pack
In Nay Pyi Daw, you can find some fairly basic western products. But it makes sense to stock upon essential medication beforehand. So you should bring along an adequate supply if you’re on medication. As far as clothing is concerned, light summer clothing, preferably cotton, is all you’ll need through most of the year. If you’re visiting in the winter, as it can sometimes get quite cool, carry light woollen jacket or a sweater. Bring along insect repellent and sunscreen, both the sun and the mosquitoes can be quite fierce.

There are a number of Interesting Places in Nay Pyi Taw.
Zoological Garden, situated in 1062 acres of land in Nay Pyi Taw Yezin and was opened on 26 March 2008 with some 420 animals, put on display at 27 booths. It is the largest zoo in Myanmar. The rare and endangered wildlife are being shown at the booths including a climate-controlled icy land inhabitant penguins and white tigers. Therefore the visitors have an opportunity to observe the rare wildlife at the gardens which they could watch only in the movies.
Uppatasanti Pagoda, which means “Peace Pagoda”, lends a certain dignity to Nay Pyi Taw with the emergence of the 325 feet high. The name was prepared by a monk in the early 16th century to be recited in time of crisis. It is similar in size and shape to the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, just 30 cm (12 inches) shorter, consecrated on 9 March 2009. There are a number of impressive religious edifices in the pagoda precinct, statues depicting the birth, enlightenment, the first discourse and attaining Nirvana of the Lord Buddha.
National Land Marks Garden, located on Thaik Chaung Road near Yezin Dam in Zayathiri Township in over 400 acres. It is structured of the national races and their customs, and it also reflects the cultural heritage of the national people and fosters the Union Sprit. Especially, the National Land Marks Garden is describing the replicas of the famous pagodas, stupas, caves, bridges, mountains, lakes, waterfalls, beaches and islands in all over Myanmar.
Water Fountain Garden, opened in 2008 in the 200 acres land, in the garden there are a main pond with three fountains inside and 11 small ponds with 13 different fountains inside, a 30 feet high clock tower, 9 recreation centres, 2 small gardens, 2 stone gardens and 10 feet wide buggy road and footpaths. There are thousands of plants having medicinal applications from all of the major regions of Myanmar at the park, representing hundreds of different species. There is a playground and water fountain complex, which hosts a musical light show every night.
Nay Pyi Taw also boasts two golf courses, Nay Pyi Taw City Golf Course and Yaypyar Golf Course and also a gem museum. And there are still many other interesting places newly built and opened in Nay Pyi Taw.
