Ngwe Saung Beach, opened in March 2000, one of the loveliest and most pleasant, the newest beach destination and the longest beach in Myanmar, situated 48 km west of Pathein in the Ayeyarwaddy Division, about 190 km, about 6 hours drive, from Yangon, on the western seaboard of the country, a very beautiful long white sandy beach facing the Bay of Bengal. Ngwe Saung is newer than nearby and more popular Chaungtha Beach, and is designed to attract international travellers and locals. The silvery beach stretches in an unbroken line for some 15 km of white sand, clear blue sea, white crested waves, untouched and pollution free surrounding, magnificent landscaping, stunning scenery and sightseeing options around the beach. So indeed, it is one of the most interesting places, where pure white sands sparkle under a clear blue sky and stretching miles along, to select for a holiday interlude of rest and relaxation.
Best Time to Visit Ngwe Saung
It is not recommended to be there after mid May till to first week of October. It is the season of monsoon, when strong rain and some thunderstorm active, the first week of May could be possible for the last trip, but in monsoon, Ngwe Saung beach is almost closed. The months from November to March are the most enjoyable time to visit the beautiful Beach of Ngwe Saung. The climate is cool and dry at this time. This is the peak season for tourists and you can enjoy various outdoor activities and sightseeing along the beautiful wide and long beach in the pleasant weather.
What to Pack
In Ngwe saung Beach, you can hardly find some basic western toiletries such as essential medication beforehand and Mosquito and Insect Repellents. Don’t forget to bring extra digital-camera batteries and memory-cards, if not, you would surely regret for missing wonderful sceneries for an amazing shot. Bring and use a good sunscreen cream or lotion as you enjoy your sun-bathing and while resting on the beach under the clear blue sky.

In the last couple of years things have changed for the better and Ngwe Saung has developed enormously. Hotels backed to the whole beach and there are a number of places right at the southern end of the beach. Most of all new hotels at chalet style with international standard and fringed with palm trees. There are several hotels includes deluxe, mid-rung and standard for your choice.

The Palm Beach Resort, is situated in a quite area around 5 minutes bicycle drive from the village, essentially gets all the key things right, the staffs are friendly and helpful, go out of their way to make your stay the most enjoyable possible. The hotel is clearly kept in good running order. The rooms are nice, comfortable and simple but complete with everything you would need and adequately sized and have a taste of Myanmar architecture.
Especially the first row “VIP rooms” are right on the beach and have a lovely veranda to watch the sunset. The breakfasts are good, and with a big enough selection to not be bored after a week.
There are still a number of hotels and resorts along Myanmar’s longest beach shore for your choices. All these hotels and resorts could possibly be empty even in a peak season.
There wouldn’t be many different places to tour in Ngwe Saung Beach. But sitting around in a sandy beaches beach and doing nothing sounds boring then some activity you can partake in. A boat trip out to Bird Island for a day of snorkelling and bird watching is a very popular water-based excursion. Around half an hour drive from Ngwe Saung, between Ngwe Saung and Pathein, is an Elephant Camp which is founded in 2000. For the visitors, the camp has well-trained elephants to conduct elephant riding program in the forest. Walking in the jungle, hiking up and down steep hills and crossing streams on the back of these elephants are an excellent opportunity to observe. The admission fee for foreigners is $5 with an additional fee of $5 if you want to ride the elephants. The small island called “Mermaid Island” by the locals is another interesting place for excursion. As the nightlife activities remain quiet, so a nearby elephant training camp is a main daytime attraction.
